Since the moment the Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi announced the concept of “Swaach Bharat abhiyaan” from the Red Fort, he struck a chord with almost every Non Residential Indian. Lack of cleanliness in India was a problem which Indians all over the world were concerned about and the idea touched billions of hearts. Then started a chain of nominations which the Prime Minister himself lead and along with it came an opportunity to do our bit for the cleanliness of India along with a the gift of appreciation.
What was the most impressive about this entire beginning was the immediate inclusion of the Entertainment wing of the society into the campaign. The prime minister nominated Mr Kapil Sharma and his team and also the entire team of Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma and that is how we saw the power of influence that the entertainment industry has to bring out the motivation to do something for the society. Indian TV channels in Malaysia, Indian TV live in Singapore were no exceptions. Starting from telecasting such episodes repeatedly and also creating awareness regarding the same by notes, social media campaigns and small promos including stars, the channels did a pretty commendable job.
Comedy nights with Kapil has the host Mr Kapil Sharma reminding the viewers in one way or the other by his words, acts and social media posts reminding and motivating people regarding the campaign. Biggboss also does its bit by setting an example and encouraging cleanliness in the house. They have eliminated contestants for uncleanliness. They also reward the most hygiene and cleanliness conscious participant in the show.
The team of mission sapne had the celebrities getting along with some of their biggest fans and highlighting the issue of importance of cleanliness, hygiene and also they also show the biggest of celebrities visiting the smallest streets of India including slum areas and promoting cleanliness by dumping the waste, sweeping, etc.
Aaj ki raat hai zindagi had the superstar of the millennium Mr Amitabh Bachchan promoting cleanliness in his own unique way. He used poems, shayaris and motivational quotes along with his impeccable vocabulary to promote and inspire people to keep their surroundings clean and hygienic.
The team of Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma decided on adopting an actual area near their shooting site and taking up the responsibility of keeping it clean and hygienic. This was also telecast on the show as a full episode dedicated to it and it had the people’s most loved starts cleaning the surroundings and also explaining people the importance of it and by this they inspired many people to take an initiative to keep their surroundings clean.
This is a very unique and long standing potential of using entertainment industry to promote cleanliness and hygiene was unlocked and it is still getting stronger with each passing day.
